IMG_4424 We went on a very impromptu trip to San Antonio the day after Christmas.  Our daughter, Holly, and her husband thought it would be fun to take their two kids and for us all to go spend the night and enjoy the River Walk, the Mexican Market, More

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls: A New Years Tradition

I’ve recently (within the past few years) started a new tradition for us … making homemade cinnamon rolls for our family on New Year’s Eve or Day.  We usually do a New Year’s Eve in; Enjoying each other, a fire and homemade fun.  With extra time on my hands a few New Year’s Eve’s ago, I knocked these out and haven’t looked back.  I use The Pioneer Woman’s Cinnamon Roll Recipe … and you should too!  It’s super easy … it just takes time to let the dough rise and sit and cook! Here are some pics of my progress: More

When Your Child Wakes You Up For The Fourth Time In A Night…

Well, it draws many questions … What is going on?  Did you wet the bed?  Bad Dreams?  Spiritual Warfare?  Too cold?  Do you need another blanket?  Do you have to pee?

It draws many emotions … I’m tired; yay! It’s only midnight, 5-6 more hours of sleeping!; oh, dear goodness, NO … It’s only 2 am.; is it bad to turn on the TV at 3 am and just let him sit there while we sleep?; it’s 4:45 … may as well just get up.

It’s weird.  Sometimes I’m actually angry when kids wake me up a lot at night.  That’s kind of revealing … it shows the selfishness of my heart for just wanting uninterrupted sleep.

The ability to not go back to sleep at 4:45 also shows the condition of my heart around certain circumstances right now.  I was worrying.  “what does she think about me.  I don’t want her to think I’m that kind of person, etc.”.  It makes me want to go to said person and say certain things … reiterate things just to make sure she knows I’m not that kind of person.  Control was creeping up.   More

31 Days: Let’s Just Be Honest Day 27: I Dropped The Ball

Let’s Just Be Honest: I dropped the ball.  I’ve been doing it a lot lately, but mostly with myself and family stuff around the house.  It’s not yet to the point where it’s affecting that many other people besides me and my husband.  More

They are a few days shy of being 3 years apart.  No, we didn’t do it on purpose … it just happened.  So we’re in the midst of parties and birthdays and trying to love them well.  We have a few birthday traditions including going out for dinner wherein the birthday person gets to pick the place for dinner.  This year another tradition starts … using this plate all day.  I like this plate and what it reads.

What does your week have in store?

31 Days: Let’s Just Be Honest Day 20: Apple Cider

Let’s just be honest: Autumn is my favorite season.  Yes, winter has christmas and spring is when I was born and summer is full of fun, beaches and sunshine, but there is something about Autumn.  The reprieve in heat, the cooling off, the changing of the leaves (that I get to look at in magazines because here in Austin things just go from green to brown!).  We got chilly this past week.  Low of 52 one night and high of 59 the next day.  It was great!!!  So we made apple cider.  It was super easy.  Have you ever done it this way? 31 Days: Let’s Just Be Honest Day 19: Go Have Fun!

It’s Saturday!!!! YAY!!!  Let’s Just Be Honest: Sometimes I need to remind myself to just go have fun.  Funny isn’t it?  Well, I wanted to remind you to do that today.  Go with your friends or roommates or kids or family and do something fun.  Walk into Party City and try on their fun sunglasses and look at Halloween costumes.

31 Days: Let’s Just Be Honest Day 18: Loneliness in Church

Let’s just be honest: Sometimes we feel lonely in church.  Unfortunately, that’s just a true statement.  Regardless of church size, it’s actually very easy to feel alone in church.  It’s easy to walk in, sit and listen and just get up and walk out without ever really talking to anyone.  Sometimes this is nice.  There’s security in being anonymous.   No one has to really get to know you, learn all about your junk or hurt you.  Sometimes you just don’t even know what to say to someone.  Depending on where you sit you might say hi to some of the same people every week, but you don’t really go deep with them.  That can change, if you want it to.  There are some really very practical things you can do to make your Sunday morning church experience a different one.  Here’s what I do:
