31 Days: Let’s Just be Honest Day 30: Acknowledgement

Acknowledgement.  Do you know what it means?

acceptance of the truth or existence of something; the action of expressing or displaying gratitude or appreciation for something

Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior?  If you do, the very first time you met Him you submitted your life to Him.  To His rule, His reign, His Lordship, His supremacy, His power, His authority.  Sounds heavy, doesn’t it?  When it happens though, it’s freeing.  It’s usually a culmination of realization that you cannot handle this life on your own, your ways aren’t working, nor should they because you have no authority over this life.  Your eyes and heart have been opened by the power of the Holy Spirit to reveal all truth to you (John 16:13); The Truth is: you need saving.  You need Jesus to wash all your sin away and bring you back into a right relationship with God.  And you submit your life to that.  To Him. Trusting that what He did by dying for you on the Cross will do just that.

Acknowledgement is doing a form of that every day in prayer.  It is something I’ve recently added to my daily prayer life.  It has really helped me in being okay with all that is going on in my life, whether good or bad, whether I receive answers from God in certain areas or not.  I’ve mentioned this process of waiting on God here, here and here this month.  It’s still a big part of my time in life.  I added it only because I’ve been going through Beth Moore’s Whispers of Hope (more on that here).  She has 6 things she encourages us to do daily in your prayer life.  One of those is Acknowledgement and I have LOVED it!!!

It’s not getting ‘re-saved’ or being saved over and over again.  That’s not necessary.  The bible clearly states that the first time we come to know Him, we’re saved forever, sealed by the Holy Spirit so nothing can ever separate us from God.

“In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.” Ephesians 1:13-14 (emphasis added)

What it is, is submitting our hearts, our control, our time lines, our ways of doing things and thinking back over to Him.  It’s a way for us to align our hearts and minds and emotions with His will and ways.

Here is a basic prayer of what it looks like for me:

Dear God, I acknowledge your authority – Your right to rule and reign in my life.  I willingly and deliberately submit myself to You, Your will and Your Lordship over my life.  I surrender myself to You today.  I surrender my plans, my heart, my body, my emotions, my desires for XYZ (give of your desires to Him right now). I trust You, Holy Spirit to usher me into all truth today as I walk in the power of You.  I trust your authority over my life.  Your will, love, intentions, timing, friends, job ….  I don’t always understand why You do what You do or why You are doing this in my life right now, but I trust your truth when you say that ‘You know the plans You have for me and that they are for a future and a hope.’  (Jeremiah 29:11)

I love what Beth Moore says in her book: “Any day not surrendered to the authority of the Holy Spirit will automatically be lived in the flesh (see Galatians 5)”.

Are you living each day, each and every single day surrendered to His will for your life?  Are you acknowledging that to Him in prayer daily?  I urge you to do that now.  Use my prayer as a guide if you’d like.  Voice, out loud to God, your choice to surrender your life to His will.  I’m praying with you in this.  I’m doing this with you.  I’m praying you see the direct benefit of it today!
