The Lord Is My Portion

I feel a little busy sometimes.  Sometimes things are in a good flow and rhythm and we’re rockin’ right along; but not always.  I don’t do as well when I feel like stuff is busy.  I have in my head what needs to get done (and sometimes feel like it’s never done) and it makes it hard for me to sit down and relax.  I feel like relaxing is only to be done when everything else is already done.  But that’s not true.  God can allow me to relax and feel at peace even when everything isn’t done.  He is my portion all the time; Here is some truth:

  • “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.” Lamentations 3:24
  • “My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
  • I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” Psalm 91:2

So you know how I’ve been reading through a devotional called Made to Crave? It’s on  my YouVersion Bible app.  (YouVersion is a great, free bible app.  Just download it, create a profile, search ‘food’ and start the Made to Crave reading plan.  This plan is adapted from the book written by Lysa TerKeurst wrote.) It’s a 21-day reading challenge and it’s really great.  So in one of the devotionals, she is talking about the Israelites and how they survived on manna that God gave them on a daily basis.  He only gave them what they needed for that day; and He did that every day.  You can read about it in Exodus 16. Here’s a quote from the book:

“As we apply the same process to our struggles, we can find that God is the perfect portion for everything we need, every longing we have, every desperate desire of our soul.”

What.

Great.

Truth.

Seriously, right?  This is how He designed it: That we would need Him.  Our struggles, hardships, trials, anxieties are supposed to point us back to Him and help us to see how much we need Him.  This is what is on my mind this morning and how I try to apply this in a tangible way:

(This is me praying and giving all my thoughts and anxieties about the day to the Lord.  As I’m thinking through what’s on my mind, I respond with His truth in this way:)

You are my portion for food and self-control when I want to eat even though I’m not hungry.

You are my portion for busyness and finding peace.

You are my portion for speaking to my friend about the Gospel of Jesus today.

You are my portion for not being tired and being able to give 100% , all day today.

You are my portion for connecting to my kids hearts over and over and over again even when I’m so tired and don’t think I can do it any more.

You are my portion for studying for my counseling test.

You are my portion for speaking truth to those around me.  Whether I want to or not; whether I’m tired or not.

You are my portion for being an awesome wife; loving and connecting to my husband.

You are my portion for my sore body as I pursue a healthier lifestyle.

Then I put those three ‘The Lord is My Portion’ verses on a word document with that Made To Crave quote and hit the print button … twice actually.  One goes on my kitchen counter and one in my car.  These are the reminders for me to GO TO JESUS about everything, all day today.  HE is my portion.  I will drift back to me trying to fix it and do everything myself all day, but this will remind me to stop, pray and tune my heart to Him because HE is my portion.  Only He can fulfill.

Make Him your portion today.  Enjoy the freedom that comes with that and walk in the satisfaction of knowing you are doing His will and His work by His power with the portion He provides.

Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. It’s truth I’ve been trying to speak to my heart over and over lately. I so often just rely on myself instead of going to Jesus all the time about everything!

figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest authoring a blog article or vice-versa?
My blog covers a lot of the same subjects as yours and I believe we could greatly
benefit from each other. If you happen to be interested feel free to shoot
