It’s Cheat Day!!!

Today is CHEAT DAY!!!

Have I told you about Cheat day?  I’ve been doing The Slow Carb Challenge with Ashley Benson Fitness and it’s been really great.  I’ve been learning a lot about my cravings, my desires for food, my weak times of the day and so much more!!!  One thing I have not mentioned yet was that for this Slow Carb Challenge, we get a cheat day!  It’s 6 days of hard work, denying my fleshly cravings for sugar and non-nutritive carbohydrates and waiting to indulge in those things on cheat day.  It is called our Dieter’s Gone Wild Day!  You can read more about it here and here.  I really, REALLY like having a cheat day.  There’s seems to be some sort of trigger in my mind that goes something like this:

Healthier eating is so good for you. You know the benefits; both physically, emotionally and spiritually.

But can’t I just have sweets every once in a while?!

You CAN, you just have to have self-control and not eat 10 of everything.

I don’t know if I can do that, so I better just not eat any sweets ever again. 

You can see how well that would probably work out.  I’ll give you a hint: It doesn’t!  It’s totally restricting and me just saying ‘don’t ever eat sweets again’ makes me want to eat them all the time!!! (I know, sounds just like a 2-year-old.  That’s okay, I’ll own up to that!)

So with having a cheat day, I have healthy eating and work hard for 6 days, then I get to let loose a bit and enjoy the freedom of eating with no restriction for a day.  Last week I had donuts and a beer and fried chicken!  Don’t worry, there were some healthy options sprinkled in there, too, but it was great.  No guilt.  So this week, I’m having my cheat day on Super Bowl Sunday.  Here are some of the GREAT things I’m going to enjoy:

Breakfast: I’m eating a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats with extra Just Bunches sprinkled in there.  yum!

Lunch: I’m eating a GREAT burger! GREAT is a loaded word for burgers here in Austin.  There are so many. Dan’s, Mighty Fine, Top Notch … the list goes on.

footballSuperbowl Party: We’re having burgers, dogs, chips and lots of other not great for you finger foods and appetizers.  I wanted to share some of the things I’m cooking!! I’m making Trisha Yearwood’s Charleston Cheese Dip.  Every great football party needs a cheese dip and this one should not disappoint!!!

I’m also making The Pioneer Woman’s Knock You Naked Brownies.  These look amazing.  They are brownies with a whole, huge layer of caramel in the middle.  My mom (the other contributor here at MomandMom.com) made these recently and said they were super great.  I’m leaning towards leaving out the nuts, though, because we’re not so much nuts-in-our-desserts kind of people.

Lastly, I’m making Chess Squares.  I’m super excited about these.  I found these on Pinterest and they look amazing.  Sometimes my Pinterest recipes don’t exactly come out great, but what can go wrong with 1 lb. of powdered sugar, cream cheese, eggs and a yellow cake mix?  Exactly.

I’ll blog about all these afterwards and let you know how they come out.
