P 31-part 4

This is the last in a four part post on being an excellent wife and mother as given to us in Proverbs 31.  We have covered 34 traits in the past three posts that help us be the Godly woman, wife and mother that He wants us to be while here on earth.  I am not saying it is an easy job, or is ever a finished job.  I do believe all these qualities will be worked on till God calls us home to be with Him.  Then we rest and rejoice.  These last six verses culminate in the praise of this rare woman.  I think it is a beautiful crescendo to end on.  This woman’s husband has been mentioned two times so far, in verses 11 and 23.  He will be mentioned again in verse 28.  What a delight it is to think of our husbands praising us in the way this man does:

“She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.  She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.  Her children rise up and bless her:  her husband also, and he praises her, saying: “Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.”  Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.  Give her the product of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.”

Qualities:

Kind and Wise-but we have used those previously-she obviously thinks before she speaks:)-v.26

Respectful-v.26

Observant-v.27

Busy (with her tasks/makes good use of her time)-v.27

Loved-v.28

Respected-v.28

Noble-v.29

Growing (in God)-v.30

Godly-v.30

Praised-v.30-31

A few other adjectives come to mind that stand out when reading these passages that fit this ideal woman but are not necessarily stated in the scripture:

Trustworthy

Blessed

Delightful

Prudent

You just know she had those qualities too.  One of the things that stands out to me is the fact mentioned several times that she is  a  hard worker.  Being a wife and mom is really hard work even when we aren’t living such a Godly life, but couple it with all God wants us to be and that is even harder.  It’s hard to be delightful, happy and engaged at the end of the day when you have been cleaning poop, spilled juice, crayon marks on the wall, etc.  Praise be to God who knows our weakness and is strong for us.  This woman is also aggressive and competent, but she functions in a way that honors her husband’s leadership rather than disintegrating it.  She respects him and builds him up.   Do you wonder what her secret weapon is?  It is GOD!  I love that and I love these verses-hopefully you have taken a closer look at this woman and the example she is for us.  May we all strive well together in out pursuit of Godliness.
