40 + Valentine’s Celebrations

Just to follow up on Holly’s post from yesterday…VALENTINE’S DAY…is such a fun holiday.  I love that God gives us such a wonderful example of what true love is through His word. One of my favorite love verses is apparently Holly’s too.  She had it in her post, but it is worth repeating:

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” I john 4:7-8

Dick and I will be married 40 years in June, YIKES, I cannot believe how the time has flown by.  I feel truly blessed to be married to such a wonderful, Godly man.  He is a great father and awesome gDad to our fab five grandchildren  Ever since our first date in  December of 1968, we have  always celebrated Valentines in some form or fashion.  Through the dating and before kids years, it was a go out for a big night deal.  Then the kids came along and it was either leave them with a sitter, or try to get them down early so we can have some time together.  I am a big “on the day” celebrator, so pretty much Dick has learned how important it is to still celebrate even if it is in the middle of the week, not the weekend before or after.  Children definitely added a new dimension to the excitement and celebration with cookies, school parties, etc.  Grandchildren have doubled the joy of celebrating love. So last night we celebrated in what is our traditional style after kids; hang out and grill something really yummy.

Then we dined on Atlantic salmon and  yummy bread topped with balsamic tomatoes and feta.  Simple but fun and still on the day…which makes me happy.

We put on some music and opened our gifts to each other ( which is not an every year thing).  But, the cards we give are an every year thing, because they are the same ones!  Sound funny? Several years ago I bought Dick a simple card that I loved and I kept it.  I have never found one I like more.

A few years after that, he found one he gave me and said it just summed up his love for perfectly.  So, every Valentine’s Day, I go to the closet and pull out the same cards and put them on the mantle with any others we receive.    (this is my card to hubby)

Our Valentine’s memories are special-hope you are creating some as your years fly by too.
