Law or Grace?

I started reading Leviticus this morning…why?  Prompting I guess,  and it is a book that I often avoid and when reading the Bible. I usually skim through all the offerings, especially the burnt ones when they talk about the blood and what to do with the entrails and kidneys, etc., yuck. But, when I read in my commentary that there are more direct words from God in More

Humility & Prayer – Books!

I’ve just recently come off of reading an a.m.a.z.i.n.g. book.  It’s titled Humility: True Greatness, by C.J. Mahaney.  I don’t read tons of books.  I like to read, but finding time between, kids, house, working, friends, meetings and indulging in other guilty pleasures like Southern Living magazine, sometimes it’s hard!!!  I love it when people talk about getting into bed at night and reading a chapter before they fall asleep.  I think that’s awesome!!!  Why, you ask? Because when my head hits the pillow and I take that first deep breath … I’m out like a light!!!  It really is a gift and a curse!

When you come off a great book, don’t you just feel like it will be forever before you read another great one?  Well, I follow this blog called Warrior Prayers.  From what I’ve read on her blog and have seen in her posts, she, simply speaking, seems to be a mom who loves her boys beyond belief and is reconciled to the fact that the best thing she can do for them is be a prayer warrior for her young warriors.  How great is that?!  Well, right now, she is reading a book called A Praying Life, by Paul E. Miller.  After reading this short excerpt from A Praying Life, I know I have to read this book.  It’s on my next book order list :).

What are you currently reading that you love?  What is God using right now to change your heart and life for the better?

Black and White

I am more of a black and white person than not.  So when it comes to scripture and truth about God … I enjoy the same.  I read this scripture this morning and l.o.v.e. the black and white absolute truth about God in it.

7But the LORD abides forever;
He has established His throne for judgment,
8And He will judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.
9The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10And those who know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

There is a lot in there … I loved the parts in blue.  This morning I woke up with a grumpy heart.  😦 boooo on that!!!  It directly affected those around me, especially my oldest and we had a head-butting problem once again this morning.  We mended hearts before having to drop her at school, but what now?  What do I do about my heart now?

Truth.  It needs truth …. I need truth.  Black and white truth.

Psalm 103:8 “8The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.”

He is gracious with me, He understands when I wake up grumpy and choose wrong behavior.  He loves me and just wants me to come confess that sin to Him and start fresh again.

Psalm 116 ” 1I love the LORD, because He hears My voice and my supplications.
2Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.
3The cords of death encompassed me And the terrors of Sheol came upon me; I found distress and sorrow.  4Then I called upon the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I beseech You, save my life!”
5Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate. “

When I come to Him and confess, He hears.  He listens.  Like the psalmist, I can call out to Him to save me from these moments of sin in my life and He will be gracious to forgive.

Romans 12:1-2 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.  2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Just sit before Him, Holly.  Just sit.  Present yourself to Him.  Present yourself to Him as one if His.  Worship Him in this way and ask for the transformation of your heart and the renewing of your mind so you can walk away from the grumpiness and walk in Holiness.

Deuteronomy 7:9 “Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, “

He is faithful.  He will be faithful to preserve the relationship I have with my daughter and He will be faithful to His promises of transforming my heart.

What did you encounter this morning?  Did you encounter truth? Truth from the One and only True God who can bring about real heart change?  Real transformation.  Just sit.  Present yourself to Him this morning.
