What does 2011 ring in for you?

I’m noticing as of late that 2011 is ringing in a few things for me.  Namely, grey hair.  :(.  I’m only 33, but I’ve lived with this fantasy … ‘what if I was like 40 before I got my first grey hair’. My first grey hair was long ago … but literally, as of the past 2 months, I have a bunch; not that any of you have noticed (and if you have, please don’t tell me!).

2011 is also ringing in a schedule that leaves much to be desired for me.  Since my oldest started Kindergarten, I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off.  You know the mom … the one that just seems frazzled; no make-up on, smiling-like-nothing’s-wrong while she runs her kid into school late (while the kid shoves breakfast into her mouth before she hits the classroom door).  Well that’s me.  Maybe in reality it’s not that bad, but it feels like it sometimes!  So I’m redoing my schedule this January.  When I do things; the way I do things.  We’ll see what happens.

This is actually really hard for me. It seems like, oh, not a big deal, just re-arrange some things. But in reality, I’m having to admit that I didn’t have it figured out.   I didn’t just walk into a new phase of life with no mess-ups.  I couldn’t just change the way we’ve done life for the past 5 years and it not be a big deal.  Believe me, I tried.  I even gave myself grace … ‘you’ll adjust thru the month of September, but come October 1, you’ll be adjusted’… that’s what I told myself.  Sounds harsh when I read it back to myself now, but I thought I was being gracious to give myself a month to ‘figure it all out’.

I’ve had to s.w.a.l.l.o.w. my pride.  I don’t know how to work my own schedule now.  I can’t figure it out. I just can’t.

ENTER JESUS

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

It’s not about me.  As much as I want to fix my schedule, that’s not what it’s about.  It’s not about me being a mom with a perfect schedule.  It’s not about me figuring it all out myself.  It’s about HIM. Him showing off His power; using it to perfect me; all to glorify Himself.  MY schedule isn’t about me at all, it’s about Him.  What do you want me to do with my time, Lord?

In this journey specifically, it’s also about me allowing my husband to continue to be an umbrella of protection for me.  Allowing him to speak into this area of my life; listening to him and not getting defensive about it!  Trusting that he hears from the Lord on this as well and that God is speaking to me thru my sweet husband.

So, I’ll let you know how it all goes for me.  But what about you?  What is 2011 ringing in for you?  What is the Lord speaking to you about?  What changes does He desire for you to make this year?

Holly, I can totally relate with the schedule thing. I will be praying for that for you. It can consume you and it’s so easy not to let God have control over our time. yikes. But I am SOOOO thankful for how generous you guys are with your time and investing in SOOOOOOOO many lives for the gospel. I pray that you will have balance between taking care of your family well and doing ministry.

    Appreciate you!!!
