Reflections

I just returned from one of my favorite stores, Target…do you just adore Target too?  I am not sure what the lure is, but I always come out of there with more than I planned on.  This time one of my extra purchases was a darling white stuffed puppy for my oldest granddaughter, Kennedy.  She really, really does not need it, she has a million stuffed puppies-but being a grandmother gives me the right to give gifts that are not needed…right?!?  Anyway, reflections is the name of this post, so to get more to the heart of the matter, as I was putting away my stuff, I started reflecting on how fast kids grow up.  At least it seems that way when you look back.  I remember when we had Jake, More

Green Thumbs

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Just have to do a little bragging on the main guy in my life.  I do thank God he was born with a green thumb, because I was not…now I must say I have learned a lot from him, but these pictures are a testament to his green thumb and consistent care of our yard.  I am sure he inherited this “thumb” because the picture above of the enormous fern basket has a great story behind it.  Can you believe that it is at least 110 years old???? What’s on tap for dinner

Here’s what we have going on for dinner …

HEB pre-marinated Cilantro-Lime Chicken Breasts…I’ll probably grill them.  I will serve them with a side of steamed veggies and this homemade mac and cheese recipe … More

A head-butting problem

So this is an oldie, but a goodie ! … I originally posted this in July of 2010.  I’d like to tell you, now that my oldest is 8, that it’s all great and we never butt-heads anymore, but alas, I cannot!  I can tell you that God is uber gracious to always unite our hearts and allow us to connect on that heart-level.

Original Post:

My oldest and I can butt heads!  It’s gotten better as she has gotten older, but I think the height of our ‘head butting’ was when she was about 3-3 ½ years old. During that time, it literally seemed like we just could not get along.  It made my heart sad!  Then I ran across this … More

Today

Isn’t this a wonderful picture?  Holly actually took this during our family vacation in Florida.  It looks like a sunset instead of a sunrise-but still reminds me that “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)  Today is unique, it is special, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity, what happens today will never happen in exactly the same way ever again.  There will be new lives created, children delighted, proposals made, tragedies happen and new souls that come to know Jesus in a personal way. WOW!  Our God is so awesome-I plan to try to look at today in a fresh and positive way, in the way God created for me…as a gift of His grace…will you join me?

Kindergarten in 1982

Do you know how much I love Holly’s latest post?  Here she is headed off to her first day of Kindergarten with her brother, Jake heading for the big 2nd grade.  Holly is so my daughter.  The love of school supplies must be inherited.  It was such a treasured tradition every year to take her and Jake to get all the new crayons, pencils, lunch boxes, notebooks!!  Of course when she was little, we didn’t have Wal-Mart and Target…no Office Depot or Staples…but in Denton, More

School Supplies

Oh my gosh!!! I was looking at the Target Store weekly ad today and it dawned on me — I’m going to have a Kindergardener!  K is getting so big and she will be going to school … with a big girl back pack and school supplies and her whole self walking into that big school and WOW!!!!!  It’s almost too much to take in.

School supplies, in and of themselves, are one of my favorite things.  The purity of a package of clean white paper … the smell of new crayons … the potential a new pad of construction paper has.  As an adult, I still love school supplies and office supplies … post-its, colored fun paper clips, colored sharpies … i love it!

I almost see my daughter like that now.  So new and fresh and open to potential … More

Bless the Lord!

‘Bless the Lord, O my Soul, and all that is within me, Bless His Holy name”  Psalm 103:1

Friends, I pray you are able to bless the Lord by worshiping Him in a community of believers this Sunday morning! May His praise be continually in your mouth; may your soul make its boast in the Lord.  The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh magnify the Lord with me, friends, and let us exalt His name together!!! (Psalm 34:1-3)

Fairytales

How many of us girls like Cinderella?  I just really think there should have been a sequel to that-of course it would have to end happily ever after again:)  One of my favorite quotes is from a Beth Moore Bible study-she is just an awesome teacher.  I keep it in one of those magnetic 4X6 frames on my fridge so I can read it often.  It reminds me that none of us live a Cinderella life, More

Can I Brag on Half-Price Books?

So I’ve been doing some summer reading programs with the kids.  There are a lot of them, actually.  By far, my favorite one is thru Half-Price Books.  Why?, you ask … well, let me tell you!  They give your child gift cards for your child’s reading efforts!  That way they can go in and get a book they actually like and will read again.

So today we went and I cashed in 3 weeks worth of reading cards.  Look at what we got:
